Perennial, prostrate, semi-aquatic herb, rooting at nodes. Leaves opposite, sessile, obovate to spathulate, entire, up to c. 15 x 7mm, rather fleshy. Flowers solitary axillary, pedicellate, 2-bracteolate just below the calyx. Calys lobes 5, unequal with the posterior lobe the larger. Corolla pale-violet to white, bilabiate, usually the upper lip bilobed and lower 3-lobed; tube short, included within the calyx. Stamens 4, included. Capsule with numerous very small seeds. Seeds less than 1mm long, elliptical, reticulate, with narrow-winged margins
