SUMMARY
Calotropis procera (Ait.) R. Br. in Hort. Kew. ed. 2: 78 (1811). Flora of Saudi Arabia, Jizan.
Shrub, soft wooded, up to 3m tall with white latex and weak spreading branches, bark fissured, young parts covered with a white tomentum. Leaves simple, pale green, fleshy, sessile or shortly petiolate, oblong to obovate, obtuse, 10-25x 8-17 cm. Flowers in dense, pedunculate, lateral cymes. Corolla campanulate with 5 greenish-white lobes with purple tips, 1.5 cm long. Stigmatic cap pale, pentagonal with anthers adnate at the angles. Corona of 5, laterally compressed segments, shiny purple above, radiating from the gynostegium. Fruit follicle, smooth or somewhat wrinkled, inflated, ovoid, 5-7x4-6 cm. Seeds comose.
