SUMMARY
♦ Rumex pictus Forssk., Fl. Aegypt.-Arab. 76. (1775).
A fleshy glabrous, branched, annual plant, up to 25 cm tall, much branched. Leaves often fleshy , 6 x2 cm, lanceolate to elliptical-ovate to ovate-triangular, sinuously pinnately lobed, obtuse, ocreas membranous tubulat to cupulat or lacerate. Inflorescence raceme oe 1-3 flowered or paniculate. Flowers male, or bisexual, whitish green, petiole is capillary jointed. Outer sepals reflexed, inner perianth obovate, purplish – red, 2.5-1.75mm. Inner perianth segments in fruit broadly cordate up to 1cm across, warty. Male flowers with 9 stamens. Female flowers with inner fruiting perianth of different shades of red to orange to straw coloured, oribicular to reniform.
