Perennial, twining herbs, glabrous, rarely pubescent. Leaves variable in size and shape. Flowers in pedunculate , cymes. Calyx 5- partite. Corolla white or greenish, striped or spotted with purple, tubular, base inflated; lobes as long as the tube or smaller, connate at the tips. Corona double, attached to the staminal column; outer series consisting of 5 truncate or bifid segments; inner longer than the staminal column. Staminal column very short, included in the basal part of corolla. Pollinia erect, solitary in each locule. Follicles smooth.
Genus with about 160 species very widely distributed in the tropical and sub tropical regions of Asia and Africa, Madagascar and Canary Islands. 8 species in Saudi Arabia.
